Homework

Parents,

The start of October means the start of HOMEWORK!  I'm sure you have questions so hopefully this will help some.  This month will be a little different because homework will be coming home daily or weekly.  It will be due at the end of the week.  Beginning next month all homework will come home on the first day of the month and will be due at the end of the month.

Your child received a lot of papers today: October Homework Calendar, Weekly Update for October 1st-5th/Speller's Choice (on back), October Speller's Choice Activities, Math Activity Sheet, Word Study words, and an October Reading Log.

The October Homework Calendar explains what your child should be doing daily.  Your child will read, sort word study words, and practice word wall words nightly.  Math, Language Arts, and/or Science/Social Studies will rotate throughout the week.

The Weekly Update will let you know what we are doing this week.  Speller's Choice activities should be recorded on the back of the weekly update in the 4 squares.

October Speller's Choice Activities is a variety of spelling practice activities to keep it fun. One of the Speller's Choice activities involves going to Spelling City online.  Here is the link you will need: http://www.spellingcity.com/srhendricks78/ .  Your child should complete an activity for the word wall words and word study words.  Here are the word study groups for the first nine weeks: Pink (Jaelin, Caden, Hayden, Maria, Tyrese), Green (Terrell, Kamran, Katelyn, Josiah B., Kasey, Devin, Dennis), Red (Shayla, Reese, Daron, Viniya, Josiah L., Destiny, Hannah), Orange (Vilica, Jamia, Nevaeh).

The math activity sheet has two sides.  One is for tonight and one side is for Wednesday night.

Your child brought home a list of words on either a pink, green, red, or orange sheet of paper and a ziploc bag.  He/she needs to cut out the words and put them in the ziploc bag.  These words are to be sorted and checked nightly.  The bag of words should be kept in the words and money pouch in your child's ROCKSTAR book until Friday.

Your child should be reading to you or listening to a story every night.  Please record this on the October Reading Log.

Please don't hesitate to email me ( Sarah_Hendricks@ccpsnet.net or srhendricks78@gmail.com ) or call/text (743-3665 or 461-0126) with questions!

Have a great week!

Sarah Hendricks
