Pumpkins Galore!

We had lots of fun learning all about pumpkins!
We made pumpkin glyphs.  Glyphs give us information!  These jack-o-lanterns are short and fat to show that we like Fall the best!
Our pumpkins are tall and skinny because we like summer the best!
This jack-o-lantern has triangle eyes to show that this child likes pumpkin pie!
Kasey's jack-o-lantern has circle eyes to show that she doesn't know if she likes pumpkin pie!
Josiah has a triangle nose because he likes to carve pumpkins!
Reese likes to carve pumpkins too!  Actually, we all do!
These children have a scary mouth because they like scary jack-o-lanterns best!
Reese's jack-o-lantern has a happy mouth because she likes happy jack-o-lanterns the best!
Dennis, Josiah, and Tyrese like silly jack-o-lanterns best!
We are boys so our jack-o-lanterns have 1 vine!
We are girls so our jack-o-lanterns have 2 vines!
 Maria and Nevaeh
 Who's behind those faces?
 Daron and Devin
We sorted our pumpkins by size!
We had 5 small pumpkins, 4 medium pumpkins, and 2 large pumpkins!
We recorded our data using tally marks!
We conducted an experiment to see if pumpkins sink or float.
 We learned that pumpkins FLOAT!

We dissected some of the pumpkins to learn about the parts of a pumpkin!
We learned there are LOTS of seeds inside pumpkins!
We took our pumpkins outside, scooped the pulp out with partners, and counted the seeds!
 Hannah and Destiny
 Jaelin and Katelyn
 Maria and Josiah
Viniya and Devin said, "Ewwww, gross!!!"
 Nevaeh and Terrell
Dennis and Kamran did not like to touch the pulp!
 Caden and Jamia
 Kasey
Tyrese and Vilica worked hard to put the seeds in groups of ten!
 Lots of seeds!
Gorgeous day for counting pumpkin seeds outside!
Look at all of the seeds that Nevaeh found!
We threw our pumpkin halves into the woods.  We're hoping to grow a pumpkin!

Visualizing

We learned that good readers visualize when they read!  Visualizing means to draw a picture in your mind of what you just read!
 We are visualizing!
 Kasey is busy visualizing!
Jaelin worked hard to visualize too!
We visualized while reading The Gruffalo!
We also visualized while reading Max's Words!
Here's an example of our visualizations after reading Max's Words.
Visual images change as you read a book.
Please make sure your child is visualizing while reading at home!
